The Laboratory of Molecular Neurosurgery at the Department of Stereotactic Neurosurgery (Neurocentre, University Hospital of Freiburg), which is part of The Graduate School Neuroscience Freiburg, offers the following position:

PhD student

Our group focuses on neurodegeneration and neurotransplantation in the CNS with a special interest in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Huntington's disease. Ongoing experimental projects are aimed at further defining the role of neural progenitor and stem cells as well as axon growth promoting and inhibiting factors in neural repair mechanisms and their potential clinical application. Analyses include functional behavioural studies, quantitative and qualitative immunocytochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cell culture and electrophysiological (patch clamp) techniques. For more detailed information please see recent publication, e.g. Nature Med 7 (5), 512-513 (2001), Comp Neurol, 432, 217-229 (2001), J Neurosci, 21 (16), 6252-6263 (2001), Exp Neurol, 171, 405-17 (2001), Exp. Neurol. 187 (1), 118-136 (2004), Nature 429 (6988), 184-187 (2004) and please check the following internet address: http://www.grako-fr.uni-freiburg.de. There you will find further information about the objectives and outlines of the Graduate School Neuroscience Freiburg.
We offer a stimulating and interdisciplinary atmosphere, close collaborations between basic and clinical neurosciences, and contact to local, national and international groups cooperating with our department. Applicants should have an interdisciplinary vision, enthusiasm and a strong interest in the type of work mentioned above, or in any other related scientific field of medicine and neurobiology. Applications should include a CV, a letter of recommendation and/or addresses of referees and a short statement of research interests. It should be sent to:
